About Cranes

A crane is a type of heavy machine which is equipped with a hoist rope, wire ropes or chains, and sheaves. The first type of crane was introduced in Mesopotamia in circa 3000 BC. It was known as shadouf which was used to lift the water for irrigation by lever mechanisation. After this, construction cranes were introduced to the world by ancient Greece, which were powered by humans or animals.  Types of Crane:

 Let's discuss some components of the crane. The mast is the main supporting tower of the crane which is made up of steel trussed sections that are connected together during installation. The operating cabin is located on most tower cranes which sit just above the slewing unit that contains the load-movement indicator system (LMI), scale, operating controls, anemometer, etc. Slewing unit is the unit that sits at the top of the mast which is the engine that enables the crane to rotate. The jib is also known as the operating arm that extends horizontally from the crane. A "luffing" jib can be moved up and down. This fixed jib has a rolling trolley that runs along the underside to move materials horizontally. The counter jib holds the hoist motor, hoist drum, counterweights, and electronics. Weights are mounted toward the rear of the counter deck, to compensate for the weight of the materials lifted. The hoist winch consists of the hoist winch (motor, gearbox, hoist drum, hoist rope, and brakes), supporting components, and the hoist motor controller.  The hook is used to connect the goods to the crane. The hook is suspended from the hoist rope either at the tip, for luffing jib cranes.

Uses of Crane

In building construction, they are typically used to store and hoist steel beams, concrete, or any other type of large component across the roof-level job site, without having to use an outdoor crane.
